Digital Equity & Inclusion Funding Applications Now Being Accepted

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is administeringĀ two separateĀ Digital Equity & Inclusion grant opportunities with a total funding of $7 million. One application is for digital inclusion initiatives and the other is for community/gap networks. Connected Communities Grant Program: ThisĀ grant program is designed to assist local community based organizations, non-profits, and anchor institutions in creating Gap Networks and Community Networks. Those networks are designed to address the affordability challenge many low to moderate income householdā€™s face in subscribing to the internet.

Governor Whitmer Launches Program for Michigan Homeowners Experiencing Hardships

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) launched a new program today toĀ aid homeownersĀ with additional financial support to help Michiganders pay their bills and stay in their homes. The Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund (MIHAF)Ā uses federal resources allocated under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to provideĀ financial assistance toĀ homeowners who have fallen behind on homeownership-related expenses.Ā 

MassHousing Closes on $34.8 Million for the Refinancing, Renovation and Preservation of Affordability at the 192-Unit Woodlands at Abington Station

MassHousing has closed on $34.8 million in affordable housing financing to Beacon Communities LLC to refinance, renovate and preserve housing affordability at the 192-unit Woodlands at Abington Station in Abington. ā€œThanks to this refinancing transaction, the Woodlands at Abington Station will continue to be an important housing resource for nearly 200 Abington households, who live steps from the townā€™s commuter rail station and close to many amenities,ā€ said MassHousing Executive Director Chrystal Kornegay.

Public Notice to Qualified Homebuyers Kentucky Housing Corporation 2022 Mortgage Credit Certificate Program

The Kentucky Housing Corporation ("KHC") proposes to implement a program (the "Program") to provide Mortgage Credit Certificates ("MCCs") to residents of the Commonwealth of Kentucky (the "Commonwealth") who purchase new or existing residences within the Commonwealth. An MCC reduces the amount of income tax a qualified homeowner pays by providing a non-refundable, federal tax credit during the life of a mortgage loan. After all other credits and deductions are taken into account, the value of the MCC is applied directly to a homeowner's remaining tax liability.

New Strategy to Reduce and End Homelessness Moves Forward with Hub Contracts

Today, MaineHousing announced a new state-wide strategy to address homelessness. The state is implementing a scalable approach that has proven necessary and catalytic to helping many cities and counties make progress in ending homelessness. In the initial stage of this process contracts for nine Service Hub Coordinators have been awarded to local partners across the state.

LHC Housing Counseling Programs Awarded More Than $400,000 in Grants from HUD

HUD awarded over $51 Million in grants in late January to support housing counseling programs across the nation, including counseling agencies partnering with Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), or other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The slated funding will provide an estimated $434,984.00 to assist Louisiana citizens to achieve the dream of homeownership.Ā Ā 

CalHFA Welcomes New Board Member Cervantes

The California Housing Finance Agency is pleased to welcome James Cervantes to our Board of Directors following his appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom. He fills a vacant seat on the CalHFA Board with a term that goes through September 2025. The position requires Senate confirmation. Cervantes most recently worked as Managing Director in the Public Finance Department with Stifel, Nicolaus & Co from 2011 until his retirement in 2020.

Kentucky Housing Corporation Celebrates 50th Anniversary, Discusses Federal COVID Programs

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) will kick off its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration at 3:30 p.m. February 8 at the Cottages of Frankfort, 871 Cardwell Lane, Frankfort, KY 40601, with an acclamation from Governor Andy Beshear. The event will have a question and answer period, where media can ask questions about the federal housing programs to assist those impacted by COVID-19. ā€œThese programs are transformative for people who have struggled with the impacts of COVID-19,ā€ said Winston Miller, KHCā€™s executive director and chief executive officer. ā€œAt KHC, our focus is keeping Kentuckians safe and healthy in their homes.

Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Releases Fiscal Year 2021 Annual Report and Project C.O.R.E. Milestone Report

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development today released its Fiscal Year 2021 Annual Report. The departmentā€™s $2.3 billion investment provided an economic impact of approximately $4.8 billion for the state, including $79 million in state and local taxes. More than 22,000 full-time equivalent jobs with $1.1 billion in wages and salaries were created, and each dollar of state funds from the departmentā€™s programs, projects, and activities generated $25 in economic impact.

Hogan Administration Announces Second Phase of Emergency Rental Assistance Program Funding

Secretary Kenneth C. Holt today announced that the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will allocate an additional $204 million for the continuation of the state's Emergency Rental Assistance Program. This second phase of federal funding will support local efforts to assist tenants whose ability to pay rent has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the funds provided to DHCD, more than $148 million was allocated directly to Maryland counties and Baltimore City.
