Maryland Announces Four New Sustainable Communities

Three Eastern Shore towns and one community in Carroll County have been named Maryland's newest Sustainable Communities. With the addition of East New Market, Finksburg, Galena, and Hebron, the Smart Growth Subcabinet has designated 116 Sustainable Communities across Maryland since the creation of the program in 2010.

Hogan Administration Announces Additional $700,000 to Support Ellicott City Recovery Plan

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development today announced $700,000 in additional funding to continue supporting recovery efforts in Ellicott City. The funding will support Howard County’s recently announced second phase of the EC Safe and Sound plan. The plan seeks to ensure public safety, support business and property owners, maintain Ellicott City’s historic charm, and develop a more inclusive, community-driven process.

VHFA Distributes Increased Federal Tax Credits to Build Hundreds of Affordable Apartments Statewide

The Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) Board of Commissioners announced yesterday that its annual allocation of federal and state housing tax credits will support the development of 214 permanently affordable apartments in nine communities across the state. Low and moderate income Vermont renters will benefit from a 12.5 percent increase in Vermont’s annual allocation enacted by Congress last year.

R.E. Management President Victoria Parmentier Joins WHEDA Board

Victoria Parmentier has been appointed to serve as a member of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority Board of Directors. Principles of R.E. Management have been used to manage four housing complexes in Green Bay since they were developed in 1980 and 1981, all serving seniors, persons with disabilities and families with dependent children.

California Housing Finance Agency Announces Accessory Dwelling Unit Financing Pilot Program

The California Housing Finance Agency is partnering with the non-profit Self-Help Enterprises to help alleviate the housing crisis by providing financing for Accessory Dwelling Units in the City of Clovis. Self-Help Enterprises, a community development organization based in the San Joaquin Valley, will use $2.5 million in funding from the California Housing Finance Agency to act as the construction lender for Clovis' Cottage Home Program.

NJHMFA Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for Affordable Apartments for Families in Ocean Township Built With Sandy Recovery Funding

A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of 48 new affordable apartments for families today joined by New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) executive staff, local officials, and representatives of co-developers, The Alpert Group and the Affordable Housing Alliance. Cindy Lane Apartments includes two three-story buildings with one- to three-bedroom apartments, and residents began moving into their new homes in February.

Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Announces Fiscal Year 2020 Application Round for State Revitalization Programs

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is announcing the FY20 application round for six State Revitalization Programs - Project C.O.R.E, Community Legacy, Strategic Demolition Fund - Statewide (all non-Baltimore City), National Capital Strategic Economic Development Fund, Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative and SEED: Community Development Anchor Institution Program.

WHEDA Issues $165 Million in Single Family Bonding

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) has issued $165 million of Home Ownership Revenue Bonds that will be used to fund WHEDA first-time home buyer mortgages. Proceeds are expected to be spent before June 30, 2019, during the heart of the annual spring home buying season. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA has received a 2019 Community First Award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) for its financing of the Five Phases of King Drive Commons in Milwaukee. The annual awards recognize FHLBank Chicago member institutions (i.e. WHEDA) and local partners for their work in building and strengthening communities.
