Wyoming Community Development Authority
Casper – This week, the Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA) is celebrating its 35-year anniversary of financing affordable housing in Wyoming.
The WCDA is Wyoming’s Housing Finance Agency and specializes in providing affordable mortgage loans to Wyoming’s first-time homebuyers. WCDA also administers federal affordable housing programs for multi-family, special needs, and senior projects.
Since its inception in 1975, the WCDA has financed 49,315 first mortgages and its total program activities have invested $5.96 billion in Wyoming’s economy. These activities have created nearly 66,187 jobs, which generated $1.97 billion in earnings. The WCDA enjoys approximately 25% market share of first mortgages in Wyoming, which are serviced from its Casper office.
State and local governments have benefitted from WCDA activities over the last 35 years with more than $41.4 million in sales tax impacts and $231.8 million in property tax payments.
WCDA is a self-funded instrumentality of state government, meaning, it does not receive any state funding. Instead, the WCDA sells tax-exempt mortgage revenue bonds, then uses the proceeds to finance first-time homebuyer loans and rehabilitation loans.
