(Golden, Colo.) – Colorado Housing and Finance Authority’s sixth annual J. David Barba Golf Tournament has raised $84,500 for The Gathering Place. The funds will support the organization’s mission to provide safety and services for women and children experiencing homelessness or poverty.

CHFA selected The Gathering Place as its 2010 beneficiary in recognition of the breadth and volume of services the organization provides. Over 93,000 women and children visited The Gathering Place in 2009. Among their most requested services are hot meals, bus tokens, food and toiletry baskets, and use of the on-site computer lab.

“We are honored to be the beneficiaries of CHFA’s golf tournament this year and truly appreciate their efforts to organize and host the event,” said Leslie Foster, president and CEO of The Gathering Place. “During a time when many individuals are struggling to make ends meet, this support is essential to our ability to continue to both meet basic needs and provide resources for self-sufficiency for the women and children we serve.”

The 2010 tournament was held on July 27 at Fossil Trace Golf Course in Golden, Colo. Eighty players participated to raise awareness and proceeds for Colorado’s local nonprofits whose work coincides with CHFA’s mission of affordable housing and economic development finance.

CHFA’s golf tournament was created and named in memory of longtime CHFA board member and former State Auditor J. David Barba, who passed away in 2002. The event serves as a reminder of his passion for the game of golf, and for helping others.

Other recent beneficiaries of CHFA’s golf tournament include:

2005: Food Bank of the Rockies;
2006: Senior Housing Options;
2007: Urban Peak and Energy Outreach Colorado;
2008: Warren Village; and
2009: Porter-Billups Leadership Academy.
