State Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs) have the capacity to contribute tens of thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenue to our country’s economic recovery, while providing affordable and sustainable homes to working families.

The sound and proven HFA lending infrastructure exists in every state.  Over many decades, it has reliably delivered affordable mortgages to first-time homebuyers, in strong and weak economies, without ever turning to subprime lending.  It has also made affordable, quality rental homes possible for those not ready or wanting to own. In response to this, Congress and the Administration have turned to HFAs as key partners in their housing recovery efforts.

NCSHA is a national, nonprofit organization that represents State HFAs in Washington before Congress and the Administration. At the center of NCSHA’s advocacy work in Washington and State HFA housing efforts across the country are tax-exempt Housing Bonds, the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, the HOME program, and vouchers. Using these programs and other federal and state housing resources, State HFAs and their partners have made affordable homes a reality for millions of Americans.
