During the hearing, Committee members and the sole witness, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, discussed ways to promote mortgage refinancing, including the Responsible Homeowner Refinancing Act of 2012, S. 3085 , introduced May 10 by Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA). S. 3085 would amend the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) to expand refinancing opportunities for homeowners with Fannie Mae- or Freddie Mac-owned loans.

On May 15, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) hosted two symposiums featuring Administration officials and housing industry leaders as part of NAR's Midyear Legislative/Regulatory Conference. NCSHA staff attended the events.

Earlier today, Holly Glauser, Director of Development for the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, participated in a Housing Credit briefing in Washington, DC for the staff of members of the House of Representatives. The event was coordinated by the co-chairs of the House Real Estate Caucus, Ways and Means Committee member Richard Neal (D-MA) and Congressman Michael Turner (R-OH), with help from NCSHA and other Housing Credit stakeholders.
