  • Alice: "I feel like this is an answer to prayer."

    An Arkansas senior financed her home with a combination of affordable housing programs.

     

    Alice Tetrick’s husband was a minister. When they were in their late 50s, the couple moved away from their Arkansas home to Kentucky. “My husband had a stroke at 57, and he had just let his insurance drop,” said Tetrick. “We had moved to Kentucky and couldn’t get it back. We just toughed it out and the Lord has always made a way for us.”

    Alice moved into Woodland Station Apartments three years ago, when she was 71. Woodland Station is a 59-unit affordable multifamily housing development dedicated to serving senior citizens. Arkansas Development Finance Authority financed it with a combination of HOME Investment Partnerships Program Funds, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and a Rural Development Guaranteed Loan.
     “I feel like this is an answer to prayer. I love the people here and I love Cabot. It all just worked out that I could move in here, and this is where I wanted to be. I feel at home and I don’t know what I would have done if I could not have gotten some assistance to help me.”
    Tetrick said, “I’m a giver. I love to give. That’s what my husband and I did. I bring my little grandson Nathan over here sometimes—he’s four, and would live here if he could. I bake brownies and let him go ring the doorbells and deliver them to these elderly people all around here. They say God sent us here. I’m going to make peanut brittle tomorrow."

      Build America Bonds Issued to Purchase New Arkansas Building
      On March 2, 2010, the Arkansas Development Finance Authority (ADFA) authorized the sale of $19,520,000 in taxable Build America Bonds (BAB’s) to finance the acquisition, renovation and equipping of a LEED-certified facility located at 900 West Capitol. This LEED certified facility will be the new home for the Arkansas Development Finance Authority, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority, the Administrative Office of the Courts, and the Arkansas State Library.
