Victoria Todd can recount all the places she's worked, from her first job at a jewelry store, to a secretary in New York to food and beverage manager at major hotels and restaurants just a few years ago. After moving from New York to Pennsylvania, she eventually landed in South Carolina where her son was in the Marine Corp. She met her second husband here, combining her family of eight children with his four.

Family provided a place for her to live after she lost her husband, but she longed for her independence. “I’m too much of a goer. I don’t like having someone tell me what I can and can’t do, so I wanted to find my own apartment.” She heard of a new development, Seven Farms Village at Daniel Island. Built in 2010 as an infill property, Seven Farms Village offers 42 units for senior residents. Designed with economy, efficiency and sustainability in mind, Seven Farms Village is LEED certified Gold—the first Gold multifamily project in South Carolina and the highest ranking LEED for Homes Gold in the Carolinas.

The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority is proud to be a part of Seven Farms Village as administrator of the Low Income Housing Tax Credits that helped to finance the development.

“I was flabbergasted when I first got here—with the security and the entrance way—and inside it was very tastefully decorated and inviting.  I was taken aback—it was gorgeous.”  Mostly she loved the sunroom, which was just the right size for the table and chairs she had brought with her. She had given most of her furniture away after her husband died in 2005. With the help of her priest, Father Fitzgerald, she furnished the rest of her apartment just to her liking.

“The location is perfect. It’s close to everything—within walking distance.” She says she probably won’t use her car much…until she decides to find a new job. “I can’t just sit around.”

One of the best surprises was her first utility bill—$25.79.

Ms. Todd says “Thanks be!” to everyone involved with making her new home possible. “Anyone is well blessed to live here. It’s just wonderful.”
