At the end of a long day, when her two children are in bed, Christine Hill will sometimes soak in her new bathtub and marvel at her good fortune. “I sit there and think about how lucky I am to have a brand-new home,” said Christine. “I really didn’t expect it. I am still surprised every day.”
Christine used the Washington State Housing Finance Commission’s "A New Home for You" Pilot Program to purchase a four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home not far from Lynnwood’s Logan Park. The program was developed in cooperation with the Master Builders Association of Snohomish and King Counties to help first-time buyers afford new construction—and to chip away at the state’s stock of new homes.
Christine’s purchase also meant business for mortgage consultant Michelle Swanson and real estate agent Gail Eshleman as well as business owners like Eddie and Tracy Miller of Ash Way Pet Supply where Christine stops regularly for dog food. “The House Key New Home for You program is doing exactly what it was intended to do,” notes Gail Eshleman. “There’s a happy buyer, we’re all actively working in our trade, and it takes inventory off the market."
