On July 15, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the availability of approximately $2.1 million in competitive funds to be awarded to state Medicaid agencies for use in conjunction with state housing agencies to produce affordable rental housing for persons with disabilities receiving Medicaid services.  CMS, under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is awarding these funds to foster long-term relationships between state Medicaid and housing agencies  by engaging state Medicaid agencies with HUD’s Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program, HOME-funded tenant-based rental assistance, and Housing Choice Vouchers.  
 
CMS expects to award $525,000 each to four states for a 12-month period.  Only state Medicaid agencies are eligible to apply.  Applications are due August 15, 2011.
