The New Issue Bond Program, which the Department of the Treasury launched in 2009 to help state and local housing finance agencies continue financing housing for working families during the housing crisis, is set to expire at the end of 2011.

In a report released October 18, Moody's Investors Service finds that overall HFA financial performance has been stable because of the New Issue Bond Program (NIBP), but the weak economy, low-interest rates, and the expiration of NIBP may soon have an increasingly negative impact on HFA finances.

President Obama announced July 11 that he has named Carol Galante as the acting commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), effective July 12. Until this appointment, Galante has served since March 2009 as HUD deputy assistant secretary for multifamily housing, where she oversaw the rental side of the FHA.
