    Michigan is among the nation's 18 states and District of Columbia that have a Housing Finance Authority (HFA) participating in the Hardest Hit Fund program. The Hardest Hit Fund provides $7.6 billion for HFAs to design and implement programs to prevent avoidable foreclosure.

    On October 6, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing, and Community Opportunity held a hearing on the Obama Administration’s response to the housing crisis. Representatives from Treasury, HUD, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) all testified about how programs run by their agencies are addressing the housing crisis.

    On June 20, HUD and NeighborWorks America announced the launch of the Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program (EHLP). The Dodd-Frank Act, enacted in July 2010, provided $1 billion to HUD to fund EHLP. The program will assist borrowers in Puerto Rico and the 32 states not receiving funding through the Hardest-Hit Fund.

HUD and Treasury jointly release the Housing Scorecard every month to provide information on the health of the housing market.

    On March 11, the House passed the Emergency Mortgage Relief Program Termination Act, H.R. 836, by a vote of 242 to 177. The Act rescinds the unobligated $1 billion made available in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act for the Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program (EHLP) under the Emergency Mortgage Relief Program.
